CEE2ACT project is entering the final third year of its implementation. Experts of Executive forest agency (EFA) and Ministry of agriculture and food, in the period September 18-20, 2024 - took part in a site visiting under Work Package 5 on topic "Building motivation and inspiration for the development of a circular bioeconomy", and project meeting of the consortium implementing the project, took place at the Wageningen University & Research university complex in the city of Wageningen, Netherlands.
The experts from EFA, PhD. Lyubcho Trichkov - CEE2ACT project coordinator, PhD. Nestor Domuschiev - CEE2ACT expert "Knowledge transfer and capacity building" and Eng. Katerina Kutina - CEE2ACT expert "Bioeconomy" and Eng. Nikolay Vasilev, representative from the Ministry of agriculture and food and member of the working group established by order No. RD 09-495/09.05.2023, took part in the organized events and held workshops within the framework of his visit, as well as in the working meeting of the consortium of the 17 countries implementing the project, reporting the progress of the project implementation and planning the upcoming tasks.
The international site visit at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) went for co-creation, knowledge transfer and collaboration - key pillars for accelerating the transition to the bioeconomy in Central and Eastern Europe. After a warm welcome from Hilke Bos-Brouwers and Maria Beatriz Rosell, the event was officially opened by the University's Rector for Research, Prof. Dr. Caroline Kroese, after which two representatives from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature presented presentations on the Dutch bioeconomy policy and the knowledge and innovation programme. A final series of presentations by university lecturers presenting the potential of biomass and opportunities for the valorization of side streams in agriculture and storage processing, as well as on the cascading use of biomass.
In the second day of the site visit, WUR experts highlighted the research priorities in Central and Eastern Europe and the importance of bioeconomic skills and education. The seventy project partners have a chance to exchange key information and expertise to obtain WUR's bio-based pilot facilities. Researchers show how they test the capabilities of bio-based packaging materials and show ways to predict quality practical storage of fresh produce.
On the third day, aproject meeting of all partners in the consortium implementing the CEE2ACT project is held. During the meeting, the leaders of the work packages and tasks present the progress of the work packages and tasks that are being carried out by the partners, as well as the tasks to be completed by the end of the project action. In the afternoon interactive session, the 10 hub coordinators in the target countries of the project, incl. Bulgaria, participated in an interactive exchange and sharing of experiences on private sector engagement in bioeconomy activities in each of the target countries. The aim was to maximize the impact of the project's results and learning among policy makers, industry, academia and civil society.
